Collision of the Internet Architecture and the Smart Grid
Abstract:
Fred Baker, among other activities, is helping specify the usage of the Internet Architecture in the Smart Grid. In this talk, he will discuss the utility of the Internet Architecture, what may have to be changed to apply it to the Smart Grid, and what the Smart Grid can do to become truly “smart”.
Biography:
Fred Baker, who is a Fellow at Cisco Systems, has worked in data communications since 1978, and in Internet technologies since 1986. He chaired the IETF 1996-2001, has chaired a number of working groups in that forum. He now represents the IETF to the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel. He has published 43 RFCs, on topics including network management, PPP, IPv4/IPv6 Quality of Service, IPv6 operations, forensic access, and others. He was also a member of the FCC Technical Advisory Board in 2004, and has contributed to projects such as the US DoD’s Global Information Grid.
