Introductions - Iceland

My name is Sigurdur Sigursveinsson (email sigsig@ismennt.is). I am currently headmaster of an upper secondary school in Iceland. The student population includes teenagers (day-school) and adults (mostly in evening-school) as well as prisoners. The students are varied in their capabilities ranging from the mentally handicapped to very able students academically.

My educational background includes a B.Sc (Univ. of Iceland) and a M.A (Memorial Univ. of Newfoundland, Canada) in Geography, and currently I am enrolled in the new MA programme in Open and Distance Learning at the Open University in England (an on-line course).

My interests include open and distance learning, especially in the context of lifelong learning, and the common threads between academic and vocational studies.

I look forward to sharing some thoughts on these and related issues.
