Introductions - Saudi Arabia

I have recently joined the workshop. I noted many interesting topics are being discussed. I am a member of the Post Graduate studies committee in my Department. I am originally from Sudan where I had earlier experience with postgraduate education there. Our main problems are to define clearly the objectives of the post graduate studies in the physical sciences and to build up a working gateway for interaction with the community and to keep at the same time good standards (of high academic quality) of the postgraduate studies.
Difficulties in accessibility to information and published literature remain a major setback in all our efforts. Telematics in present times and the future will ease the pains of isolation but will not help, in a simple manner, to bridge the rift, between society and universities; manifest in developing countries in the fact that our postgrad educators are always trying to emulate the standards and functions of universities in the developed world! Our efforts, at present, are mostly lost in our dual attempts in closing a gap with developed countris and in mending the rift with our societies! I find myself very much concerned with these and similar ideas.
