Self-introduction:

I am the holder of UNESCO Chair on Mechatronics at Bogazici (Bosphorus) University in Istanbul, Turkey. The objectives of this recent initiative are
* to promote an integrated system of research, training, information and documentation activities in the field of mechatronics,
* to evolve as a centre of excellence in the field of mechatronics for training and development of high-level human resources at regional levels.

One major goal of the UNESCO Chair is the continual betterment of the Mechatronics Laboratory of Bogazici University to support the teaching and research activities, as well as to act as a technology demonstrator for the industry. A set of enabling technologies is expected to be incorporated in this laboratory, leading to the development of a sequence of research demonstrators which collectively display the functional attributes of advanced mechatronic systems. These research demonstrators shall subsequently be the building blocks of industrial technology demonstrators, applicable to specific application areas important for the region. Textile, leather, small batch manufacturing and shipbuilding are among the target industries.

The UNESCO chair pays particular attention to developing close relations with the manufacturing industries of the region by providing their technical personnel with continuing education courses, training in the use of high technology automation equipment, developing joint research projects, etc. The mechatronics laboratory is open to visitors as a technology demonstration center.
