Self-introduction:

Dr Rob Watling is a Research Associate at the School of Education, University of Nottingham. He has researched widely in the role of media technology in education, and has supported many teachers in identifying strategies for its use in the classroom. His recent research into educational policy issues has examined school exclusion, the importance of class size, school improvement, and the role of multimedia technology in improving access to Higher Education courses. He has developed new ways of using video within the recording and analysis of case studies as part of an ESRC studentship (1992-5), and is curently evaluating the use of videoconferencing and the internet for disadvantaged students on a transnational project funded by the European Social Fund.

We are education and management consultants working in Scotland with experience of all sectors of education, including higher education and central and local government. We work with groups on personal and professional development and research.

John contributed to the study of the Future as an Academic Discipline(CIBA Foundation 1975). He has worked in higher education and in government.

Eileen is vice-chair of the Values Education Council in the UK. She is currently coordinating a cooperative enquiry on values in education in primary and secondary schools in Edinburgh - the VECTOR Project. She is a past president of the Scottish Educational Research Association and a member of AERA.

We are both members of the World Future Society. Europersona is a contributor to the UNU Millenium project.

We look forward to responding to the framework paper and contributing to the discussion.

An anthropologist (Ph.D. Yale 1983), my main interests are Japanese society and culture, food, and the effects of technology on society. Publications include studies of life in space, SETI, and Japanese contemporary society. My current planned study is a detailed study of the effects of CMC in various types of organizations.
